Women in Research Webinar #34: Good Writing and Publishing Habits: Strategies for Being Productive

Writing is at the heart of academic work. It’s how we communicate ideas, build careers and contribute to our fields. But despite its importance, it’s often one of the hardest things to make time for. The process can feel overwhelming, isolating and creatively draining.

With the right habits, tools, and support, writing doesn’t have to feel like a constant struggle. It can become a more manageable rewarding part of academic life.

In this webinar, ARC Laureate Fellow and lead of the Women in Research initiative Professor Sharon Parker (Curtin University) will explore some of the most common writing challenges — from perfectionism and procrastination to fear of feedback — and how to overcome them with greater clarity and confidence.

She will be joined by ARC Laureate Fellows Professor Jane McAdam AO (UNSW Sydney) and Professor Lidia Morawska (Queensland University of Technology). Together, they will share insights from decades of writing, publishing and mentoring, including how they’ve handled criticism, protected time for writing and stayed motivated under pressure.

Whether you’re early in your academic career or an experienced researcher, this webinar will offer support, fresh insights and practical advice to help you build a strong writing and publishing practice that works for you.
