WHY WE NEED CHANGE
Women are under-represented at senior levels in universities and in various key disciplines. This is despite the fact that women are as well represented in terms of high school success and at junior levels.
The female workforce representation and female participation rate are important because they show
that women are present in the workforce. The lack of senior women isn’t a “supply” issue.
So why aren’t women and men equally represented across all organisational levels?
WE AIM TO SUPPORT WOMEN IN RESEARCH AND
TO ENHANCE GENDER DIVERSITY IN OUR INSTITUTIONS
Our goals:
To inspire and support female researchers by:
-
sharing stories and tips from senior researchers,
-
providing guidance and tools as to how to navigate some of the challenges that women researchers face, and
-
building an on-line community.
To enhance the effective mentoring of women by:
-
creating a “one-stop-shop” for mentoring materials and resources, and
-
providing ready access to statistics, stories, and guidance.
To promote gender diversity in educational and research institutions by:
-
articulating the ‘business case’ for gender equity in research,
-
enhancing awareness of the challenges women researchers face, and
-
providing evidence-based recommendations, supported as much as possible by research.
EVIDENCE BASED-RESOURCES AND PRACTICAL TIPS
These resources provide evidence-based summaries of (and links to) reports and research studies.
These resources provide a rigorous underpinning to the topic and allows informed decision-making.
We also share informal ideas and suggestions that come from our own experiences, as well as from the many men and women we have interviewed.
We hope that by sharing a diverse array of anecdotes and practical tips,
some will resonate and help achieve success.
